Nancy Hodgson of the School of Nursing commented on the spread of coronavirus in nursing homes. "It's a very intimate social environment, with congregate housing, and all activities are done in groups, and it's a home filled with medically vulnerable individuals who typically have compromised immune systems, who need a lot of hands-on care," she said.

Bob Chalfin of the Wharton School spoke about the mistakes small businesses can make during the pandemic. “Not being nimble, insensitive to change, and failing to realize that the crisis will abate. Think about both the short-term and long-term. Consider what you are doing so your customers will want to do business with you when this crisis is over,” he said.

Julie A. Fairman, Cynthia Connolly, and Patricia D’Antonio of the School of Nursing advocated for governors to reduce restrictions on care given by nurse practitioners (NPs) during the pandemic, as many states still require NPs to be supervised by physicians.

In an op-ed, Carmen E. Guerra of the Perelman School of Medicine and PIK Professor Karen Glanz wrote, “This pandemic has shined a bright light on the social and health disparities that affect black individuals in non-pandemic times. In the time of COVID, we need to address these disparities with even more urgency.”

Susan B. Sorenson of the School of Social Policy & Practice spoke about the pandemic’s effect on women in abusive relationships, particularly in light of a surge in gun sales.
