PHILADELPHIA –- University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann and a panel of Penn faculty will explore the causes of the economic and financial crisis, as well as its short- and long-term impacts on the world, at the inaugural David and Lyn Silfen University Forum.

   

Eric J. Furda, vice president for alumni relations and former executive director of undergraduate admissions at Columbia University, has been named dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania. Furda, a 1987 Penn graduate, will assume his position as dean on July 1, 2008.

PHILADELPHIA University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann is among five university presidents and one former president sponsoring the Global Colloquium of University Presidents Nov. 28-29 at New York University.

PHILADELPHIA -- University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann has been named a co-chair of the transition team for Philadelphia Mayor-Elect Michael Nutter.

PHILADELPHIA -- President Amy Gutmann announced this evening that the University of Pennsylvania has launched "Making History: The Campaign for Penn," a $3.5 billion fundraising campaign.  Joined by University trustees and other campaign leaders at a celebration on Penn's College Green, Gutmann reported that $1.6 billion has already been raised toward the campaign goal.

PHILADELPHIA -- Thomas S.  Robertson, executive faculty director of the Institute for Developing Nations at Emory University and former dean of Emory's Goizueta Business School, has been named dean of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.  The appointment, effective Aug. 1, was announced by Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Ron Daniels.

PHILADELPHIA - Michael J. Cleare has been named associate vice provost for research and executive director of the Center for Technology Transfer at the University of Pennsylvania.  Cleare will join Penn Aug. 1 from Columbia University, where he is serving as executive director of Science and Technology Ventures.  

WASHINGTON - Elected officials and university scholars will examine incivility in politics and the increasing polarization of policy debate at the Penn Conference on Civility and American Politics April 30 on Capitol Hill.

PHILADELPHIA -- Reinforcing its commitment to ease the financial burden on low- and-middle-income families and to continue to attract top students with diverse economic backgrounds, the University of Pennsylvania today announced a significant expansion of its financial-aid initiative for low- and middle-income families.
