Penn Professor David Ruderman Awarded Humboldt Research Award
A University of Pennsylvania professor has been awarded a Humboldt Research Award to fund collaborative research with specialist colleagues in Germany.
David B. Ruderman, Joseph Meyerhoff Professor of Modern Jewish History in the Department of History in the School of Arts & Sciences was among this year’s class of honorees. He was nominated for this award by Professor Dr. Christian Wiese of the University of Frankfurt am Main Germany.
The award is defined by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation as a recognition of a researcher's “entire achievements to date.” After receiving nominations from German researchers, the Foundation grants the awards “to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future.”
Award winners are invited to spend as long as one year cooperating on long-term projects at German universities and research institutions or their work can be divided into blocks of time.
