Penn Hosts International Conference on Epigenetic Influences of Early Brain Development
WHAT:
A group of international scientists including Tom Insel, director of the National Institute for Mental Health, will gather at the University of Pennsylvania to share their most recent findings in early childhood development and early life programming that lead to development of neurodevelopmental and affective disorders like anxiety and depression, schizophrenia and obesity.
Basic scientists and clinicians will share insights into the growing body of research demonstrating that early life development, such as maternal development and pre- and post-natal events, plays an important role in the way genes are expressed, leading to a host of potential disorders.

Fluid Silicon, a platform from President’s Sustainability Prize winner Nhlanhla Mavuso, allows computer chips to continuously monitor their health and self-tune as their characteristics change.
