Anna Kalandadze, a fourth-year freestyle swimmer on the women’s swimming and diving team, broke the Ivy League record in the 1,650-yard freestyle on Saturday at the Ivy League Championships held at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool.
Her time of 15:53.88 bested the previous mark of 15:57.34, which was set by Princeton’s Alicia Aemisegger in 2009. Penn swimmers finished in the top three spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle, which consists of 33 laps. First-year Sydney Bergstrom placed second with a time of 16:20.35 and first-year Anna Moehn came in third with a time of 16:20.35.
From Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Kalandadze also won the 500-yard freestyle on Thursday and finished third in the 400-yard individual medley on Friday. Her time of 4:38.58 in the 500-yard freestyle set a new DeNunzio Pool record. Quakers placed 1-2-3 in the event; fourth-year Catherine Buroker finished second with a time of 4:43.86 and Moehn took third with a time of 4:45.48.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Kalandadze’s time of 4:15.13 set a new school record. Princeton’s Ellie Marquardt placed first (4:12.69) and the Tigers’ Meg Wheeler finished second (4:13.97).
Kalandadze’s performances earned her First-Team All-Ivy honors. Her 91 points were second-most of the meet.
The Quakers finished in sixth place at the Championships with 832 points. Princeton won the team title.
