President's Message - The Penn Compact: Cultivating Creativity, Collaboration, and Innovation - January 2010

January 18, 2010 Dear Members of our University Community: Despite the largely disenchanting events of the past ten years—recently dubbed by Time Magazine as “the Decade from Hell”—we at Penn have avoided 21st-century ennui by cultivating creativity, collaboration, and innovation. In the new millennium, we forged ahead in teaching, research, and service. We also opened 14 new buildings, completed the historic acquisition of the former postal lands, and launched our ambitious campus development plan, Penn Connects.

December 3, 2009 Dear Members of our University Community: Last week, we celebrated the opening of the Roberts Proton Therapy Center at the University of Pennsylvania—the largest, most advanced facility in the world for this most precise form of cancer radiation. The Center will allow us to make quantum leaps forward in health care treatment and research.

October 2008 Dear Members of Our University Community: Over the last few weeks the world has seen the American capital and credit markets experience their worst turmoil in three generations.  It is no wonder that the state of the economy is on everyone’s mind, even as we go about our day-to-day work of studying, teaching, conducting research, volunteering in our communities and supporting the mission of this great university.
